Role Description:
The Data Warehouse /ETL Developer or Data Analytics Engineer will be responsible for unlocking the value of data by managing, transforming and operationalising data for use by business areas. This includes the development and sustainment of data pipelines utilising Enterprise Data Platforms. They will also manage end-to-end data management processes, using appropriate tools and techniques that conform to agreed process standards and industry specific regulations. Working in a diverse team environment, this will involve sharing outcomes and experience with others to support development and growth. This role sits with the Data Engineering team who support the Enterprise by providing data that is fit-for- purpose, complete, accurate, and consistent for business intelligence and data analytics use-cases. The team employs contemporary and innovative tools and techniques to automate the ingestion of data into Enterprise Data Platforms. Part of the role will be ensuring that all development is in line with standard engineering and technical approaches employed by the team, and that risks associated with deployment are adequately understood and documented.
Required Skills:
Designs, implements, and maintains data engineering solutions in SQL and Python.
Build tooling and techniques which are well tested, documented and provide consistency in data engineering approaches.
Ability to fuse data sources using various data pre-processing techniques such as transformation, integration, normalisation, and feature extraction to create useful data structures.
Ability to carry out data quality checking and remediation
Demonstrated ability to develop technical documentation and track work in collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
Platform engineering such as containerisation.
Integrating and building APIs.
Experience in data storage platforms such as or online analytic processing (OLAP) relational databases (RDBMS) Hadoop, document stores or graph databases.
Experience in implementing data flows in tools such as Apache NiFi.
Other Features:
Desirable Experience: Minimum 3 year’s Data Warehouse Development experience.
Desirable qualification: Tertiary qualification in a technology field.

Role Description:
The Data Flow Engineer will be responsible for building and managing secure transfers of data between different networks along with providing monitoring and alerting services. This includes the development and sustainment of data flows using a variety of technologies. They will also manage capability and processes, using appropriate tools and techniques that conform to agreed process standards and industry specific regulations. Working in a diverse team environment, this will involve sharing outcomes and experience with others to support development and growth. This role sits within the Data Flows team who provide architecture, management and support of secure Cross Domain Solutions / gateways and data flows. The team acts as a digital post office through automated routing of data to and/or from systems including the collection of data feeds from external sources to be ingested and distributed to systems.
Required Skills:
Programming experience (e.g. Python and SQL).
Build tooling and techniques which are well tested, documented and provides consistency
in development approaches.
Experience in implementing data flows in Apache NiFi.
Integrating and building APIs.
Demonstrated ability to develop technical documentation and track work in collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
Platform engineering such as containerisation.
Contributes to the selection of the configuration methods, tools and techniques.
Other Features:
Desirable Experience: Minimum 3 year’s data flow or Cross Domain Solution experience.

Role Description:
Mission Data Division (MD) within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) will deliver cutting edge capabilities to Defence through a variety of different programmes and projects. To facilitate this ASD has a requirement for a Data Engineer. A Data Engineer is required to assist with the planning, designing, creation, amending, verification, testing and documentation of new and amended software components in order to deliver agreed value to stakeholders. The Data Engineer will be involved in the identification, creation and application of agreed software development and security standards and processes. The Data Engineer will assist in adopting and adapting software development lifecycle models based on the context of the work and selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches.
Major Responsibilities:
Design and implement complex data flows to connect operational systems and data for analytics and business intelligence systems, whilst ensuring data security and governance.
Manage the design, development and maintenance of enterprise data warehouse/data lake and data engineering solutions.
Work with stakeholders to assemble large, complex data sets that meet their current and potential requirements.
Manage the build of data streaming systems.
Perform root cause analysis on data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
Manage the development of data engineering frameworks and best practices for processes aimed at enhancing the availability, security and performance of data assets.
Develop a schedule of work and report on progress.
Other Skills:
Demonstrated high-level experience as a Data Engineer in large and complex enterprise environments (preferably with Federal Government organisations).
Proven experience and record of accomplishment of managing the delivery of project deliverables on time and of high quality.
ITIL v3 Foundation.
Object Oriented Language (Java, Python, go, JavaScript, SQL, Cypher).
Demonstrated experience in Processing and Analytics Services. (Spark, Java map reduce, Knative, Ray, NIFI).
Knowledge or experience in working with Open-search, Neo4j,Redis, Oracle, Kafka, Kubernetes.

Security Clearance:
Must hold either a current Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance OR have held a TSPV in the previous 12 month period (which has since been downgraded). Candidates with a current Defence Intelligence Agency recognised Psychological Assessment (PA) preferred but not essential.
Other Features:
Services will primarily be undertaken within Russell Offices in Canberra, but travel may be required to be undertaken to other locations within Canberra and interstate.
There will be a requirement to undertake occasional planned work outside the cores hours in support of maintenance activities and general support.
Core hours:
Contracted personnel are to work no more than an average of 8 hours per day, between the hours of 7am and 7pm unless requested to do so by the Contract Manager, and must take a minimum 30 minute break after 5 hours consecutive work.
