    Machine Analytics Engineer (Multiple Roles) ​
    Major SFIA Level: SINT 4
    Client: Australia Geospatial Intelligence Organisation (AGO) - DEF100
    Location: Defence Offices, Canberra ACT 
    Start Date: 1 July 2022 (negotiable)
    Contract: 12mths
    Extension Options: 3 x 12mth periods at the Commonwealth's discretion

    Part-time arrangements: May be considered
    Clearance: Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) or have held TSPV in past 12 months

    ​Role Description:
    This RFQ is seeking contractor support for Machine Analytics System Integrator Engineer roles in support of a number of DEF100 Capability Elements. If all DEF100 positions are filled and there are suitable candidates still available, other AGO projects (with vacant roles) may utilise this round to fill their vacancies.
    The Machine Analytics Engineer will be responsible for working under general direction as a member of a team responsible for developing advanced analytics, tools and techniques to exploit AGO’s data holdings in support of business requirements. The role will involve the design, development and integration of advanced analytic solutions.
    The role will need proven system integration experience and an ability to work within an integrated team of technical/non-technical personnel.
    The program of work has multiple projects which range in size.  The successful candidate may be required to work across one or more of these projects.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Applies a range of mathematical, statistical, predictive modelling or machine-learning techniques in consultation with experts if appropriate, and with sensitivity to the limitations of the techniques. Selects, acquires and integrates data for analysis. 
    • Develops data hypotheses and methods, trains and evaluates analytics models, shares insights and findings and continues to iterate with additional data.
    • Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends and refactors complex analytics/scripts/software.
    • Contributes to selection of the analytic/software development approach for projects. Applies agreed standards and tools, to achieve well-engineered outcomes. Participates in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues' work.
    • Supports leadership efforts to improve data science processes and techniques.
    • Resolve issues and or problems that arise during the course of capability development projects. 
    • Document technical processes and methodologies, and write documentation in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
    • Establish and foster productive working relationships by working cohesively and flexibly with the broader project team, key business partners and stakeholder groups.

    Other Skills:
    • Demonstrated knowledge in the application and integration of machine learning approaches (desirable).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of geospatial analysis (desirable)

    SFIA Skills Required:
    • SINT 4 (Primary)
    • ITOP 4 (desirable)
       
    Security Clearance:
    Must hold either a current Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance OR have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded). Candidates with a current Defence Intelligence Agency recognised Psychological Assessment (PA) preferred but not essential. 

    Core Hours:
    8 hours per day between the hours of 7am and 7pm
    Contracted personnel are to work no more than an average of 8 hours per day, unless requested to do so by the Contract Manager, and must take a minimum 30 minute break after 5 hours consecutive work.
    Part-time arrangements will be considered.

    Other Features:
    • Ability to work in a high security environment with sensitivity reticence and discretion.
    • The role is based in Canberra with minimal travel.

    • Evaluates the need for analytics, assesses the problems to be solved and what internal or external data sources to use or acquire.
    • Specifies and applies appropriate mathematical, statistical, predictive modelling or machine-learning techniques to analyse data, generate insights, create value and support decision-making. Manages reviews of the benefits and value of analytics techniques and tools and recommends improvements.
    • Takes technical responsibility across all stages and iterations of software/analytic development. Plans and drives software/analytic construction activities. Adopts and adapts appropriate software/analytic development methods, tools and techniques.
    • Contributes to and supports leadership efforts to improve data science processes and techniques.
    • Contributes to the development of solution architectures in data analysis and exploitation. Identifies and evaluates alternative architectures and the trade-offs in cost, performance and scalability.
    • Identify system interdependencies and liaise with other system stakeholders to resolve conflict and coordinate integrated solutions.
    • Document technical processes and write documentation in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
