    Role: Radio Frequency (RF) Technologist 
    ​Major SFIA Level: DESN 3
    Client: Australian Signals Directorate (ASD)
    Location: Canberra Region (Russell, Fyshwick, Fairbairn, Brindabella Pk) 
    Start date: ASAP
    Contract: Contract terms between 12 and 24 months will be considered
    Part-time arrangements: May be considered. Respondents are to clearly indicate requirements in their response.

    Role Description:
    Access Foundations Branch within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), will deliver cutting edge capabilities to support ASD’s Signals Intelligence and Offensive Cyber Capabilities.

    These capabilities consists of a combination of:
    • Delivery of new capability under the REDSPICE program,
    • Delivery of ASD's major capability programs and,
    • Enhancing and modernising existing capabilities.

    To facilitate this ASD has a requirement for a RF Technologist.

    The RF Technologist will be responsible for the design, integration, testing and documentation of engineering subsystems under broad direction and guidance. The RF Technologist will be required to work across a variety of disciplines including RF hardware design, software configuration, testing, and completing Systems Engineering documentation and procedures. The RF Technologist will be required to provide support to team members in the required areas of expertise and share their knowledge to aid in improving staff understanding. 

    Major Responsibilities:
    • As directed, undertake the design, integration, testing and documentation of engineering subsystems. 
    • Plan, design, manage, execute and report test and test procedures using appropriate testing tools and techniques.
    • Produce technical documentation.
    • Undertake testing using electronic debugging equipment (examples include oscilloscopes, logic analysers, spectrum analysers) to do fault finding and debugging of embedded hardware devices.
    • With guidance conduct design reviews.
    • Assist in the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures.

    Other Skills:
    • Experience in RF systems, favourably Satellite Communication.

    • DESN 3
    • RFEN 3
    • TEST 2
    • PROG 2
    • SINT 2

    ​Security Clearance:
    Must hold either a current Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance OR have held a TSPV in the previous 12-month period (which has since been downgraded). Candidates with a current Defence Intelligence Agency recognised Psychological Assessment (PA) preferred but not essential. 

    Core Hours:
    Contracted personnel are to work no more than an average of eight hours per day between 7 am and 7 pm, unless requested to do so by the Contract Manager, and must take a minimum 30-minute break after five hours consecutive work.
    Part-time arrangements may be considered.

    Other Features: 
    • The role is based in Canberra with minimal or limited travel if required.
