    Role Description:
    The Software Developer will work as a member of a diverse delivery team that is responsible for the further development and sustainment of a Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) software solution. This role will include all facets of the software development lifecycle and require members to design, develop, deploy, test and document solutions.
    The role will need proven software development skills and an ability to work within an integrated team of technical and non-technical personnel.
    The Software Developer will mentor junior developers, requiring them to provide direction on best practices and design principles in order to produce a performant, secure and sustainable solution.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Lead the development of software that supports high quality User Experience outcomes.
    • Contribute to and support leadership efforts to improve engineering processes.
    • Identify system interdependencies and liaise with other system stakeholders to resolve conflict and coordinate integrated solutions.
    • Maintain and update engineering and maintenance documentation in order to incorporate system design changes.
    • Support productive working relationships by working cohesively and flexibly with the developer team, the broader program team, key business partners and stakeholder groups.
    • Take technical responsibility for the design and implementation of JavaScript based applications using Express and React.
    • Take responsibility for the design and implementation of automated tests using various tools. For example: Selenium, Locust or Mocha.

    Other Skills:
    • Demonstrated ability in the use of Containerisation solutions such as Kubernetes or Docker swarm to deliver an enterprise solution.
    • Demonstrated ability in the use of configuration management tools and/or infrastructure as code scripting languages For example: Ansible.
    • Demonstrated a high level of experience in NoSQL database solutions. For example: ElasticSearch or MongoDb.
    • Proven experience in both Windows and Linux based administration.

    Core Hours:
    Contracted personnel are to work no more than an average of eight hours per day between 7 am and 7 pm, unless requested to do so by the Contract Manager, and must take a minimum 30-minute break after five hours consecutive work.
    Part-time arrangements may be considered.

    Other Features:
    • The role is based in Canberra with limited travel within Australia possibly required.

    Role Description:
    Access Foundations Branch within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), will deliver cutting edge capabilities to support ASD’s Signals Intelligence and Offensive Cyber Capabilities.

    These capabilities consists of a combination of:
    • Delivery of new capability under the REDSPICE program,
    • Delivery of ASD's major capability programs and,
    • Enhancing and modernising existing capabilities.

    To facilitate this ASD has a requirement for a Software Developer.

    The Software Developer is required to assist in the development and integrate of software employing an Agile Software Development Methodology (SDM). The position/s will include developing software, integrating Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) and Government Off the Shelf (GOTS) software, documenting technical processes and assisting with testing and deployment. 

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Enhance and support automation capability for existing systems and recommend/design new structures and tools which meet business requirements which take into account the target environment. Integrate Commercial Off the Shelf and Government Off the Shelf software. Translate logical designs into physical designs and integrate software employing an Agile Software Development Methodology. 
    • Monitor systems and infrastructure; provide assistance with support requests to fix and troubleshoot issues.
    • Implement and maintain automated testing. Provide feedback on implementation and design aspects as required from other areas.
    • Database design and implementation for operational systems.
    • Assist in the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures and produce documentation, including detailed design documentation, in accordance with ASD policies and procedures.
    • Provide guidance and direct the work of other team members. Work as a member of an integrated Agile team and effectively prioritise, allocate tasks, participate in and contribute to design reviews, stakeholder meetings and agile processes.

    Other Skills:
    • Demonstrable experience in development languages/frameworks such as Python, Java, Java Messaging Service, Javascript, J2EE, RESTful web services, Django and Ruby, Kubernetes, OpenShift.
    • Demonstrable experience with Puppet, Ansible and Docker automation tools.

    • Contribute to and support leadership efforts to improve engineering processes.
    • Identify system interdependencies and liaise with other system stakeholders to resolve conflict and coordinate integrated solutions.
    • Work as a leading member of an integrated Agile team.
    • Document technical processes.
    • Develop a schedule of work and report on progress.

    Other Skills:
    • Demonstrated experience in Android Emulator development
    • Demonstrated experience in Virtual machine administration
    • Network troubleshooting 
    • Linux-based networking

    The Software Developer will be responsible for working under direction as a member of a team responsible for developing complex programs, integrating Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) and Government Off the Shelf (GOTS) software, documenting technical processes and assisting with testing and deployment.
    The role will need well established software development skills and a proven ability to work within an integrated team of technical/non-technical personnel.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Develop complex programs using a variety of software languages (e.g. Python, Java) and development environments to achieve a well-engineered result.
    • Deliver scripting using a variety of languages (e.g. JavaScript) and secondary skills (e.g. SQL)
    • Develop software that provides high quality User Experience outcomes.
    • Adhere to software engineering processes and contribute to software engineering process improvement.
    • Work as a member of an integrated Agile team.
    • Document technical processes.
    • Conduct reviews of other team members’ work.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures.

    Role Description:
    The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) within the Australian Signals Directorate requires software developers able to deliver effective capability solutions.

    The Software Developer will be accountable under broad direction to interpret specifications and technical designs to build, maintain and modify code or adaptation data for software applications, construct technical specifications from a business functional model, write and execute tests, and write and maintain technical documentation.

    Roles exist both in project teams and tactical positions embedded to support business units.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Design, build, integrate, deliver and document software capability that meets business requirements.
    • Support, maintain and enhance existing software capability ensuring application availability.
    • Ensure quality and security of software capability through appropriate testing and review.
    • Assist in the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures.
    • Escalate issues and seek advice from team leader or project manager in a timely manner.
    • Engage with business and product owners to clarify and fully develop user requirements using agile development methods.
    • Document technical processes in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and promote bi-directional knowledge transfer within a team environment.

    Other Skills:
    • Experience in the Cyber Security or related domain would be highly regarded.
    • Demonstrated competence in Java software development (.Net or other programming experience will also be considered).
    • Demonstrated competence with Python and/or similar experience with other scripting languages.
    • Experienced in developing and deploying software within a Linux / UNIX environment.
    • Proven ability to work in a team environment and contribute ideas. Experience working within an agile team is desirable.
    • Experience in the use of automation and deployment tools is desirable.
    • Experience in Linux and/or Windows administration is desirable.
