    Role: System Engineer 
    Major SFIA level: DESN 5
    Client: Australia Signals Directorate (ASD) 

    Location: Russell, Fairbairn, and/or Brindabella Park Offices, ACT
    Start date: On or soon after 18 August 2022
    Term: 12 months after the commencement date
    ​Part time arrangements: Will not be considered

    Role Description:
    The Systems Engineer will lead complex activities and tasks relating to DEF 7013 PH4 requirements development, system definition, design and development, integration, verification and validation. This role will plan, organise, integrate and deliver complex systems engineering services and products, whilst working cohesively and flexibly with the broader project team, key business partners and stakeholder groups.
    ​
    Major Responsibilities:
    • Understand and apply technical and professional knowledge and experience to systems engineering processes across the system engineering lifecycle for systems delivery.
    • Analyse complex systems engineering issues, apply expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
    • Undertake systems analysis, design, verification and deployment including for software and hardware.
    • Contribute to and review externally developed designs, plans and other artefacts to ensure integration with requirements and verification processes.
    • Provide technical input for contract development ensuring the quality of specifications, standards and control measures.
    • Responsible for contract milestones i.e. approval and verification gates.
    • Provide technical advice on project deliverables for contract formulation.
    • Contribute to the overall design and technical criteria for product/component selection.

    ​Other Skills and Knowledge:
    • Good knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and processes.
    • Knowledge of information systems security principles, practices and technologies.
    • Knowledge of IT Service Management, Project Management and IT security.
    • A good understanding of the Information Security Manual.
    • A proven ability to document technical processes.
    • Good knowledge of and experience in current developments and trends in ICT systems.

    • USEV 4

    Security Clearance:
    Must hold either a current Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance OR have held a TSPV in the previous 12 month period (which has since been downgraded). Candidates with a current Defence Intelligence Agency recognised Psychological Assessment (PA) preferred but not essential. 

    Other features of the role:
    • The role is based in Canberra with limited travel within Australia possibly required.

    Role Description:
    The Systems Engineer will lead complex activities and tasks relating to requirements development, system definition, design and development, integration, verification and validation, and transition to operations.
    This person will plan, organise, integrate and deliver complex systems engineering services and products, whilst working cohesively and flexibly with the broader project team, key business partners and stakeholder groups.

     Major Responsibilities:
    • Understand and apply technical and professional knowledge and experience to systems engineering processes across the system engineering lifecycle.
    • Analyse complex systems engineering issues, apply expertise to identify causes, and recommend courses of action to resolve.
    • Assist in continuous improvement by developing and enhancing processes and procedures, and by documenting technical processes involved.
    • Contribute to contract development including identification of approval and verification gates.
    • Contribute to and review both internally and externally developed designs, plans and other artefacts to ensure integration with requirements and verification processes.
    • Work with specialists to develop acquisition, delivery, and sustainment strategies for relevant work.
    • Work with key business partners to understand their needs, and subsequently triage and translate these into relevant solutions.
    • Resolve issues and or problems that arise within the constraints of the project.
    • Contribute to the system Transition to Operations planning and implementation activities.
    • Contribute to system development and design, including for software and hardware. 

    Other Skills:
    • Proven experience in Systems Engineering and managing technical aspects of project delivery.
    • Proven experience of ICT systems infrastructure covering a range of physical and virtual environments.
    • Good knowledge and experience of current developments and trends in IT systems.
    • Knowledge of information systems security principles, practices and technologies.
    • Knowledge of IT Service Management, Project Management and IT security
    • An understanding of the Information Security Manual

    Role Description:
    Experienced Security Systems Engineer and Analytics Specialist required to develop and enhance ASD ICT security systems. The service provider will be responsible for engineering activities and tasks relating to requirements development, system definition, design and development, integration, verification and validation. This role will include responsibility for implementation of major analytic-driven activities to meet required business outcomes.

     Major Responsibilities:
    • Execute systems engineering tasks in the design, development, deployment and sustainment of security capabilities.
    • Develop complex analytics across large and varied datasets to achieve insights and answer security-based business requirements.
    • Deliver technical visualisation of proposed applications for approval by customer and execution by system developers.
    • Establish use cases, procedures and technical documentation to ensure delivery of security services.
    • Engage with stakeholders to confirm that services meet the service acceptance criteria and are to the required standard. 

    Other Skills:
    • Proven knowledge of information security principles, practices and technologies.
    • DESIRABLE: Experience with ICT security applications such as a SIEM (e.g. Arcsight, Splunk), and data analytic platforms.
    • DESIRABLE: Experience with Windows and Windows security tools 
    • DESIRABLE: Experience with *nix systems and *nix security tools
