    Role: Technical Document Writer (CCSPO)
    Major SFIA level: INCA 4
    Location: Russell and/or Fairbairn Offices, ACT
    Start date: ASAP
    Term: Between 12 to 24 months from commencement date
    Part time arrangements: May be considered
    Clearance: Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV)

    ​PLEASE NOTE, as this is a re-opened role the RFQ submission will be evaluated upon receipt and may be closed at any time as soon as a suitable candidate is identified by the business area. As such, we strongly recommend you provide a response to the RFQ as soon as possible.

    ​Role Description:

    The Technical Document Writer will produce a range of design, configuration, technical support and training documents for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) projects. The role requires complementary skills to produce a range of highly technical documents through to user friendly training and user guides or pamphlets.
    The Technical Document Writer will work closely with the project technical team in the development of design documentation, technical reference material, service support documents and training/usage documentation.
    The Technical Writer requires highly developed technical writing skills and the demonstrated ability to work in an integrated team of technical and non-technical personnel. Final documentation is expected to comply with Commonwealth standards such as the Commonwealth Style Guide and accessibility requirements.
    The role provides essential support to the project delivery team which is responsible for infrastructure and product development that will be integrated with existing systems. Technical Notes supplied by Service Providers will be compiled into system design and security documents, requiring liaison with Service Providers to better understand how the Technical Notes come together.
    The role will also develop user friendly and executive-targeted documentation including usage guides and training materials. The Technical Writer will demonstrate awareness of and adherence to Commonwealth Style Guide and Commonwealth Accessibility requirements.

     Major Responsibilities:
    • Provide technical writing services for ICT DEF103.  Prepare technical documents of a high standard, but also related correspondence, reports and proposals for management review.
    • An understanding and/or previous experience working in ICT networks capability project or sustainment.
    • Technical writing:         
    • Develop ICT Security accreditation documentation in accordance with the endorsement process;
    • Develop design documents drawing from existing technical and configuration information;
    • Develop systems and service transition documentation which meets the agreed requirements for transition of the solution to                sustainment teams;
    • Develop support documentation including for ongoing maintenance activities, disaster recovery procedures, and ‘as built’ configuration documentation.

    • Non-Technical writing:
    • Develop standard operating processes and process maps;
    • Develop data management standards;
    • Develop briefs, minutes and other formal documentation as required;
    • Aid the project team with the development of professional communications materials including community-wide publications, executive-facing presentations and briefings, and staff-level presentations and briefings;
    • Supports project office document configuration management and configuration control through document filing and updating of document status information;
    • Support productive working relationships by working cohesively and flexibly with the engineering team, the broader project team, key business partners and stakeholder groups.

    Other Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as WORD, VISIO and PowerPoint.

    • Demonstrated awareness of copyright, intellectual property, security classification marking and requirements is essential.

    • Previous experience producing standard operating procedures, data standards, process maps and other documentation for technical ICT sustainment environment.

    • Previous experience working in highly classified projects.

    • ICPM 4

    ​Security Clearance:
    Must hold either a current Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance OR have held a TSPV in the previous 12 month period (which has since been downgraded). Candidates with a current Defence Intelligence Agency recognised Psychological Assessment (PA) preferred but not essential. 

    Other Features: ​
    The role is based in Canberra with minimal travel.

    Core Hours:
    Contracted personnel are to work no more than an average of 8 hours per day between the hours of 7am and 7pm, unless requested to do so by the Contract Manager, and must take a minimum 30 minute break after 5 hours consecutive work.
    Part-time arrangements may be considered.
