Role Description:
Mission Data Division (MD) within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) will deliver innovative capabilities to Defence through a variety of different programmes and projects. To facilitate this ASD has a requirement for a Software Developer.
The Software Developer is required to develop and integrate software employing an Agile Software Development Methodology (SDM). The role includes developing software, integrating Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) and Government Off the Shelf (GOTS) software, documenting technical processes and assisting with testing and deployment.
Major Responsibilities:
Enhance and support automation capability for existing systems and recommend/design new structures and tools which meet business requirements which take into account the target environment. Integrate COTS and GOTS software. Translate logical designs into physical designs and integrate software employing an Agile Software Development Methodology.
Monitor systems and infrastructure, and provide assistance with support requests to fix and troubleshoot issues.
Implement and maintain automated testing. Provide feedback on implementation and design aspects as required from other areas.
Database design and implementation for operational systems.
Assist in the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures and produce documentation, including detailed design documentation, in accordance with ASD policies and procedures.
Provide guidance and direct the work of other team members. Work as a member of an integrated Agile team comprising technical and non-technical personnel. Effectively prioritise, allocate tasks, participate in and contribute to design reviews, stakeholder meetings and agile processes. Conduct reviews of other team members’ work.
Develop complex programs using a variety of software languages (e.g. Python, Java) and development environments to achieve a well-engineered result.
Other Skills and Knowledge:
Demonstrated experience in development languages/frameworks such as Python, Java, Java Messaging Service, Javascript/ Typescript, J2EE, RESTful web services, Django and Ruby, Kubernetes, OpenShift.
Demonstrated experience using Puppet, Ansible and Docker automation tools.
Demonstrated experience using React.
Other Features:
The role is based in Canberra with minimal to no travel.
Security Clearance:
Must hold either a current Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) security clearance OR have held a TSPV in the previous 12 month period (which has since been downgraded). Candidates with a current Defence Intelligence Agency recognised Psychological Assessment (PA) preferred but not essential.
Core Hours:
8 hours per day between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
Contracted personnel are to work no more than an average of 8 hours per day, unless requested to do so by the Contract Manager, and must take a minimum 30 minute break after 5 hours consecutive work.

Role Description:

The Software Developer is required to perform an extensive range of complex technical work activities, including being prepared to undertake work, which requires the application of fundamental and advanced knowledge in a wide and often unpredictable range of situations. The Software Developer will be required to understand the relationship between own specialism and ASD’s wider customer/organisational requirements.
Major Responsibilities:
Lead the development of software fixes within expertise.
Implement and maintain automated testing. Provide feedback on implementation and design aspects to stakeholder groups.
Lead the assessment, analysis, planning and design of release packages, including assessment of risk. Conduct post release reviews.
Responsible for the specification and design of software to meet defined requirements by following agreed design standards and principles.
Lead the planning, design, management, execution and reporting of tests, using appropriate testing tools and techniques, whilst conforming to agreed process standards and industry specific regulations.
Drive the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures, produce documentation in accordance with ASD policies and procedures.
Ensures design reviews, stakeholder meetings and agile processes.
Work as a member of an integrated agile team comprising technical and non-technical personnel.
Deliver scripting using a variety of languages (e.g. JavaScript) and secondary skills (e.g. SQL).
Lead the development of software using a variety of software languages (e.g. Python, Java) and development environments, to ensure it meets business requirements.

Role Description:
GEOINT Capability Delivery Branch supports AGO and Defence through the implementation and sustainment of AGO’s ICT and satellite imagery systems. The branch is responsible for delivering major and minor projects and also performs project governance.
This RFQ is seeking contractor support for Atlassian Application Specialist roles to meet GEOINT Capability Delivery Branch outcomes. The Atlassian Specialist will be responsible for configuring and supporting Atlassian applications such as Jira, Confluence and R4J, to implement system solutions using Jira, and perform project and program delivery support functions, such as requirements management and governance. The Atlassian Specialist will work under direction from the Project Management Office to develop and maintain AGO’s on‑premises Atlassian applications. As Atlassian develops new functionality, the Atlassian Specialist would be expected to be familiar with these new releases and be able to provide advice on their applicability.
The role will need software configurations and support skills and a proven ability to work within an integrated team of technical/non-technical personnel.
Major Responsibilities:
Configure Atlassian applications to meet business requirements, particularly the use of these tools to support the implementation of ICT projects.
Provide business hours support to Atlassian applications, including working with other system administrators to resolve incidents.
Implement and maintain disaster recovery preparedness measures.
Document technical processes and write documentation in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
Support and facilitate productive working relationships by working cohesively and flexibly with the developer team, the broader program team, key business partners and stakeholder groups.

Role Description:
This RFQ is seeking contractor support for Systems Engineer roles in support of a number of DEF100 Capability Elements. If all DEF100 positions are filled, and there are suitable candidates still available, this RFQ may be used by the GEOINT Capability Delivery Program and other Branches within AGO to fill relevant vacancies. The Systems Engineer will be accountable under broad direction to lead complex activities and tasks relating to requirements development, system definition, design and development, integration, verification and validation. The role will lead planning, organisation, integration and delivery of complex systems engineering services and products. The role will need systems engineering skills and a proven ability to work within an integrated team of technical and non-technical personnel. The program of work has multiple projects which range in size. The successful candidate may be required to work across one or more of these projects.
Major Responsibilities:
Work with project managers, product owners, business analysts and senior customers on the design of integrated ICT solutions that support organisational outcomes within the constraints of a technology roadmap.
Provide engineering solutions that demonstrate awareness of dependencies and the need to collaborate and integrate with external agencies or partners.
Undertake impact analysis on major design options and trade-offs.
Lead the analysis of complex systems and apply engineering expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
Escalate issues and seek advice from Project Manager and or Engineering Manager in a timely manner.
Contribute to external contract development including identification of approval and verification gates.
Lead documentation suite development, ensuring high quality products. Engage with relevant stakeholders in the documentation development.
Resolve issues and or problems that arise during the course of capability development projects.
Assist in the continuous improvement process by developing and enhancing procedures, and working cohesively and flexibly with the broader project team, key business partners and stakeholder groups.
Identify risks, makes recommendations and assesses and manages associated risks.
Other Skills and Knowledge:
Experience with system engineering practices for major ICT system delivery within Defence or Intelligence organisations.
